Video Game Hallmarks
PREMISE: An alien culture has come into contact with us Earthlings and has issued an ultimatum. We must select our (categories * 3 or 5) best video games to give to them and if they are deemed excellent enough, Earth will not be completely annihilated.
Step 1: List possible categories on which games should be judged.
Step 2: List games.
Step 3: Vote.
Art / Graphics
Sound / Music (?)
Game Mechanics
Story
Innovation (?)
Reception (?) (What about "cultural significance" or something?) (Could you expand on what the hell you mean by that? :P )
(some sorts of "complete package" kinda thing)
Games you want to see on this list at the end (haha)
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Dance Dance Revolution
- World of Warcraft (::snerk::)
- Grim Fandango (maybe :| )
- Pokemon Gold/Silver (and not an earlier "canon" iteration?) (I think Red/Blue > Gold/Silver)(Pokemon Red/Blue was great and all, but it was really Gold/Silver that made Pokemon truly competitive)
- Ōkami
- Super Mario Brothers (I really think this should be replaced by Super Mario 3 and/or Super Mario World; Mario 1 just cannot compete)
- Tetris
- Final Fantasy VII
- Starcraft (the first [and arguably only one even now] truly competitive PC gaming game)
- Zelda Ocarina of Time (don't know what category it can compete for, but it was the best game of all time to me, so I think it should go in..)
- Crysis for Art/Graphics
- Little Big Planet for Innovation and/or Game Mechanics
